Procrastination is rooted in fear and a lot of times we don’ t know where the fear originated from. This is what will need to be established before we can overcome procrastination at a deeper level, finding the root of where the fear began that causes procrastination. Definition of procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something. [ from Oxford Languages ]
Procrastination holds us back from moving forward in what we want or need to do. For example, Neeron had always known she was called to write a book. But every time she sat down to write, she hesitated. The truth was, she was afraid, afraid of failing, afraid that no one would read her words, etc. All excuses.
With procrastinating, there are tools to use to keep moving forward. For instance, we can recite the scripture, one is, God hasn’ t given us a spirit of fear, but power, love and a sound mind. With the word power, we can use our power and just do it. And speaking of just do it, I say these words daily and will use them when I feel I’ m procrastinating on something, just do it.
For me, I was praying and asking God what is blocking me from moving forward with certain things. I recently learned that I was procrastinating due to fear. But why? I’ ve done so many bold things, why is this coming up now? I prayed again to seek where that fear came from and it showed itself to be from my childhood. I grew up in a lot of fear. I was scared of my father, things that were happening around me caused me to fear, now years later when I’ m stepping out to do bigger things, this is when is chooses to show up. I’ m glad to know what it is and how to move forward in spite of it.
As the saying goes, fear is false evidence appearing real. When you think about it, the fear is of the unknown, the fear of getting no for an answer, the fear of what others will think. These are some of the things that cause procrastination and can hold us back. And all of these do not matter; what matters is doing the will of God and following the leading of the Holy Spirit who is our guide anyway and what God does is always good. Knowing this, we shouldn’ t be procrastinating, agree James 4:17 says to submit ourselves to God … when we submit to God, procrastination won’ t be an issue.
Matthews 6:33 says to seek first the kingdom of God. In seeking God first, we will go to God for everything, thereby eliminating the procrastination.
In all actuality, God is our help. When we feel we’ re procrastinating, pray to God for help, and use Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Him who strengthens me as arsenal to use against procrastination.
Making a plan, setting a goal, writing the steps to complete the goal, and doing each step one by one helps to alleviate procrastination.
Another thing that can help with procrastination is reading stories of other people’ s testimonies. In the book Maximum Achievement by Brian Tracy, there’ s a story of a couple that achieved amazing results from their goals. After I read their story, I thought to myself, when I feel the procrastination coming on, I should read that story as it’ s quite uplifting and inspiring.
Here are three quick solutions to help when procrastination appears:
# 1 pray and seek God on the reason for the procrastination.
# 2 Ask God for the solution
# 3 Do it anyway. Even when we are feeling like procrastinating, just do it.
When we find out where the root of the procrastination came from( that is really fear), we are to root it out by praying, using scripture, and if need be, seek a coach to help you work through it, me.
Even though we will face fear, there will be times when we will want to procrastinate, it’ s life, however, we have tools to help us through it. Use the tools and just do it remembering God hasn’ t given us a spirit of fear, but love, power, and a sound mind.

Just do it! There is always hope to move through procrastination!
