The Discerner Emilie Riggs

Emilie Riggs ’ paintings are inspired by borderlines and contrasts . Her style surfs between figurative and abstract . Her brushstroke plays between thick knife textures and fluid pigment runs . Her subjects reflect on boundaries . In this series of seascapes , Emilie reflects on the horizon , the line where sky and sea touch . She also explores how earth and sea meet . Her paintings focus on colour and texture as the essential means to express the delicate space where two different entities come into contact . She works from photographs she takes of places , which inspire her , such as Cornwall and Greece for this series . Half American , half French , Emilie Riggs moved from Paris to London 3 years ago . Upon arriving , she first studied at the Arts Academy and got a Printing Certificate before finding a studio at Kindred Studios , a large community of artists in Notting Hill . She has regularly shown her work in Parisian galleries and her art is collected worldwide .
