EXPLORING NEW INCENTIVES IN C E N TI V E S T O KN OC K D O W N BARRIERS Exploring New Incentives looks at ways to address barriers, financial and othe , to the adoption of improved grazing land management practices and landscape remediation approaches in the BBB catchment. A New Incentives grants framework has been developed to help grazing enterprises to build resilience into their business while improving water quality outcomes, production, and the knowledge and skills of people working in the enterprise. The grants are aimed at encouraging graziers with innovative ideas they would like to trial to tackle property issues such as weeds, animal health and welfare, herd productivity, and erosion features. Providing their proposal meets strict criteria, the LDC team links graziers to the right expertise and resources to help them implement the project. Seven grants have been approved, and it’s expected more will be approved in 2020. Approved projects: • Spray mister - Eungella • Weed wiper - Cloudbreak • Water telemetry - Inkerman and DeSalis • Preg testing units - Mt Crompton and Mt Aberdeen • Mt Pleasant: Demonstration Site and Learning Hub (Refer to pages 2-5 for details on the Learning Hub). 34 The Hub The Hub is trialling how regenerative agriculture practices can restore landscape function in a production grazing landscape. The aim is to influence a continuously imp oving system of catchment scale support for extension, training, farm planning support and regulatory compliance management for rangeland grazing. Eungella: Spray mister Eungella Station has implemented a weed management plan to improve property biosecurity which has broader implications for the BBB catchment because the property is a thoroughfare for utility companies and recreational campers, as well as having a Sunwater pipeline running through it. The spray mister will treat weed excursions to help prevent weed spread. Treating weeds will encourage pasture growth, increase ground cover and reduce sediment runoff. Weed wiper: Cloudbreak A weed wiper is being trialled to help manage giant rat’s tail (GRT) grass and other weeds. The landholders have undertaken weeds and chemical control training and will host a field da . Outcomes expected include reduced herbicide use and overspray, and improved land and water condition on the property.
