We are pleased to present the third episode of UNFIIIL- TERED— a talk show in which our hosts, Dr. Robert Hänel and Steve Golden( NextGen Class X), interview a pre-eminent restructuring professional on both the professional and personal aspects of their life and career. We were honored to be joined by Debra Grassgreen for the program.
Debra Grassgreen is a highly respected restructuring and insolvency lawyer with decades of experience representing debtors, trustees, and creditors’ committees in large, complex Chapter 11 cases across the United States and internationally. She is a senior partner at Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP in San Francisco, where she chairs the firm’ s international insolvency practice and is widely recognized as a leading expert on cross-border restructuring matters. Notable engagements include high-profile representations in cases such as Solyndra, American Suzuki Motor Corporation, Mesa Airlines, and the creditors’ committees in the Weinstein Company bankruptcy, among others.
Debra has played a significant role in shaping global insolvency discourse. She served as President of the International Insolvency Institute( III)— the first woman elected to that position— from 2019 to 2021. In recognition of her contributions to the field and to the III’ s mission, Debra was honored with the Institute’ s 2023 Founder’ s Award.
In addition to her III leadership, she has held prominent roles with the International Women’ s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation and the American College of Bankruptcy, and she has served for many years as an NGO delegate to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law( UNCITRAL) working group on international insolvency law. Debra is a frequent speaker and author on restructuring topics and is consistently recognized by leading legal directories for her expertise and influence in the field.
