with the US market comprising the bulk of private credit volume, while Canada ' s market remains more modest due to the dominance of the Big Six Canadian banks. The conversation delved into the advantages private credit offers( speed, flexibility, and custom solutions) as well as emerging concerns about due diligence standards, rating agency reliability, and the potential for " kicking the can down the road " in troubled company situations.
In the penultimate panel of the conference, Hon. Stuart Neiberg, Maria Konyukhova and Trevor Courtis as moderator, engaged in a fascinating session on Unconventional assets in insolvency proceedings, discussing real-world case studies that pushed the boundaries of traditional asset valuation.
The panel explored remarkable examples including the sale of Hudson ' s Bay Company ' s Royal Charter, novel security structures involving aging whiskey barrels, and the preservation and realization of embryos in fertility clinic insolvencies. These case studies illustrated how practitioners are increasingly confronting assets that defy conventional valuation frameworks and require multidisciplinary approaches combining legal expertise with operational, regulatory, and reputational considerations.

The conference fostered valuable networking and relationship-building throughout. On the first evening, attendees gathered for a memorable wine reception hosted by Mark Bloom and Baker McKenzie at their offices, offering attendees a fantastic opportunity to continue discussions in a collegial atmosphere. Following the wine reception, the attendees had dinner at Tacology, a Mexican Taqueria with a vibrant mercado-style dining experience, providing an informal setting to socialize with colleagues over a fantastic meal.
The Takeaway The III North American Regional Conference demonstrated the III ' s continued leadership in facilitating dialogue on cutting-edge insolvency and restructuring issues. The conference provided attendees with practical insights and strategic frameworks to navigate evolving challenges while strengthening the professional community that addresses them.
