Burkhart includes man’s earliest writings in the form of petroglyphs (left - lower). He doesn’t treat
them as obscure images scratched on a wall, the artist’s framing of the light as it hits the drawings
puts them on a stage forcing us to look closer.
One of Gerard’s good friends said to him before he started his adventure in Mojave, “As far as I
can tell it looks like the road ended and there was nothing but billowing clouds of dust and the
screaming of lost souls.” This exhibition is a tour of Mojave like no other, a perspective that is
uniquely different and worth your time to explore. This writer believes that like so many great
street photographers, this artist has found a unique way to capture the lost souls and preserve them
as found artifacts under a shimmering sky.
