Moving Forward into the New and Exciting Year
2017 will be an exciting year of tremendous growth for the Mojave National Preserve Artists Foundation ( MNPAF ).
We begin with a new Artist in Residence , art photographer , Christine Hauber . A great article about her work appears in this edition of Desert Light , but I also want to provide an editorial note about her theme and project .
Christine camped in the Mojave National Preserve desert with her motor home while doing her Artists in Residence project . It was cold and windswept at times and Christine patiently waited out the weather to capture a particular sky that would emphasize her infrared art . More importantly , she overcame the vastness of desolation of the Mojave National Preserve to create ‘ Pause , Breathe and Feel ’, an exhibit that frames the Mojave Desert in a light that emphasizes solitude and peace .
You must see this exhibit , and I encourage you to collect at least one of her originals , which are on maple frames .
The OX Ranch will become the new home for artists in the MNPAF Artist in Residence program , and we need your help with restoring and updating this iconic location . We need trades volunteers , as well as financial donors , and this article describes the process of how you can help .
The foundation has grown and thus we are making changes in the duties of various board members and volunteers to accommodate new projects and service . Thus , this is my last Desert Light edition as editor . I will devote my time to fundraising and marketing the work of our artists . The talented and capable Tom Lowe will take over this post , and I know first hand that he will provide us with strong editorial leadership .
All the best light ,
