The Mojave National Preserve Presents:
Permanent Collection of artwork
M
any museums and not-for-profit art galleries support permanent collections of art. The
Museum of Modern Art, for example, contains 200,000 pieces of contemporary art by over
13,000 artists. Others have smaller collections that may emphasize various genres, styles and or
historical periods. The Mojave National Preserve Artist Foundation Board of Directors decided to launch
a permanent collection early in our development and many of our current and former Artists in Residence
contributed work to the collection.
Permanent Art Collections allow a gallery to re-display work, curate various works to present new
approaches to subject, style and genre. We can also loan work(s) from the permanent collection to other
galleries and we can create traveling exhibits that will allow us to share the Mojave National Preserve with
others who may never have the opportunity to get a little sand in their shoes or feel the Mariah winds on
their faces.
From August 15 through September
30, 2016, our first permanent collection
exhibit will be on display at the Desert
Light Gallery. Artists include: Janet
Huston, Caroline Kwas, Ken Cook,
Tom Lowe, Gabriel Thornburn,
Russell Thornburn, Norman Schwartz,
Terry Ellis, Jim Short and Bob Killen.
We invite you to visit and support the
collection with purchases of limited
edition prints and painter’s lithographs.
