Rowena’s poppy design POPPIES ON A COASTER Americana Deco Art Buttermilk, Cadmium Red, Bright Orange, Napa Red, Olive Green, Black Brushes: 5/8” Flat Brush, no. 4, Liner Brush 1. Basecoat the coaster with two coats of Buttermilk, sand between coats. 2. Using Tracedown, trace the poppy design on to the coaster. 3. Paint the whole poppy with Cadmium Red. Dry. 4. Using a 5/8” flat brush load the brush with Cadmium Red, side load the brush with Bright Orange and blend on a blending pad. (Do this for each petal with plenty of paint on the brush). Paint the outside edge petal first so that the orange is on the outside edge of the petal – see diagram. Paint the next two petals in the same way. Paint the petal at the front last, making sure the orange is on the outer edge. 5. With the corner of the brush pick up orange and paint in some highlights on to each petal with light strokes from the outside edge in toward the centre – see diagram. 6.
