The Death of Professional Sports in Nassau County May 2015 | Page 8

The bottom line to all this is NO politician fear Islanders fans. It certainly didn’t stop Nassau Democrats to actively kill Nassau Executive Edward Mangano’s last Hail Mary to keep the Islanders with the Referendum.

Once that was done, so was the Islanders owner Charles Wang. Something I warned about to no avail.

It just wasn't the Republicans who led the NY Islanders out of town. It was the entire political quagmire. The Nassau County and State Democrats have constantly been out of touch with the realities of the situation throughout

the process... including Democratic Party head Jay Jacobs.

Referendum Debacle:

"Wang was unwilling to front the cost and the taxpayers were unwilling to support the borrowing."

– highly-placed Democratic Party source who ignored that Charles Wang did just that previously with the Lighthouse Project.

The source also ignored that the Democratic party sent off robocalls behind the scenes to kill the Mangano-led project.

Their main message was that taxes would go up for Nassau residents with the deal.

However, what they FAILED to mention is that the county will now lose money and valuable tax revenue with the NY Islanders leaving.

Could have Charles Wang had a bit more finesse to get the Lighthouse Project or something like it through? Probably.
