collapsed like pack of cards before the weight of electorates’ expectations from Trump

W
hen were US Presidential
election results tantalizingly
as surprising and throat
chocking as seen during
the just concluded one, perhaps never. In
the 227 years old history of US Presidential
election, it was for the first time people,
media, political watchers were left stunned
by the results of the polls. None could
believe that a candidate who trailed far
behind in public opinion polls throughout
the presidential campaign, would emerge
victorious and that too in a stunning
fashion. In fact, so much political wind was
going in Democrat Hillary Clinton’s favour
that one Latin American country had even
sent an invitation to Hillary in advance,
asking her to make first overseas visit on
becoming US President.
But something else was in store which
experts could not read or analyze. They
could not understand electorates’ mood,
which was ought-and-ought against
the establishment and against diehard
politicians. Hit hard by the rising threat
of Islamic terrorism, uncertain economic
situation and joblessness, people wanted
someone at the helm of affairs of the US
who would be brash and unapologetic in
his drive to change America both inwardly
and outwardly. Yet it was Federal Bureau
of Investigation Director James Comey’s
October 28 letter to Congress which
changed the rules of game. In his letter
to Congress, the FBI Director announced
that the FBI was reopening its investigation
into Hillary Clinton’s State Department
emails. It damaged the momentum that
the Democrat Presidential candidate’s
campaign had created across the country.
