ways than one . He was calling for peace and freedom for the Burmese who we had been fighting with over there , while Hyde was calling for the extermination of what he called the “ savage vermin ”.
Jekyll was in the middle .
It was rumoured that he and his minister of war despised each other , evident by the fact they were never seen together , and each took to sitting in Parliament only on days the other was absent . But Jekyll was also no fan of Sir Danvers . The MP undermined him at every turn calling him a milksop , a hornswoggler and a poltroon whenever he was in polite society . He tried to pass it off as simple japery , but the maids said that they caused Jekyll to fly into periods of melancholy .
While these moods struck Jekyll and kept him from Parliament , Mr Hyde would inevitably find a reason to pick a fight with Sir Danvers until the two of them were screaming at each other while the other MPs took cover .
I listened to the maids while I busied myself drying dishes waiting for the bell to ring . Two days had passed , and nothing . No summons , no need for me , nothing .
Worry began to set in , and I wondered if the bell was broken . Mary must have seen my concern as she was quick to let me know that Mr Jekyll was a sensitive sort and actually quite shy , and he would only call when it was completely necessary .
With that in mind , when I knew the PM was out of the building , I took to exploring the halls , earning my daily two pounds by staring at portraits and avoiding the giggling eyes of the maids , who seemed delighted to have a young man in their midst .
