breathe . With each breath , she felt the need to wretch , nausea floating through her .
Sarah wasn ’ t sure what Tempest had done to her , but shivered thinking of how it felt to feel the thing nursing off something inside . With every swallow , Sarah felt weaker until she couldn ’ t fight her off anymore .
Visions and jagged pieces of the dreams lingered with her throughout the day , like a damp handprint on her soul . Whispering fingers of fog masked the world around her , the hut gone . Flashes of lightning made her heart stutter inside her chest .
She was in trouble . “ Momma ?” asked someone nearby .
Sitting up , she saw a young girl , blonde hair damp against her face .
“ Are you okay ?” Sarah asked . “ Are you my momma ?”
The question lanced through her heart , realizing the girl was about the same age her daughter would be , the daughter she miscarried . Riley Marie Kingston . The ragged memory raked her mind raw .
It couldn ’ t be . “ Riley ?”
The girl nodded and rushed into her arms , the smell of shampoo washing over her face in quick kiss .
