Maybe There Is a Devil
by Daramola O. Femi
Maybe there is a devil that strikes the earth,
The one that drinks from the teary eyes of man,
Or the one that dances at their misfortune,
With their blood greasing the loins of his garment.
The good caregiver that ask for their good eyes,
Or the generous god that feeds on the crumbs of
other gods,
Or the visitor that visits its departed guest,
Or the one that hunts man at the wee hours of the
night.
The one that designs surprises like tomorrow,
The famish road thirsting for the blood of strangers,
The quiet viper that stings its loyalties,
The one ruling the kingdom of mortality.
Daramola O. Femi studies Sociology and Anthropology at Obafemi
Awolowo University. He believes in the deepness of art, and the
beauteousness of imagination, especially dark poetry because it comes
from the soul and governs the body. His work has featured in
SocioTell, Dirwords, anthologies, and across the web.
