Eleanor looked at him, a look that chilled him, full
as it was of mock concern. "Why, Doctor," she said, cold
amusement in her tone. "You don't look too good. Is
something wrong?"
Usher was unable to reply. His universe, his
essential truth was gone, leaving him dazed and
disoriented. He needed time to think, to get his bearings
again. Wordlessly, he put his hand to the back of his neck.
But even though he scratched and scratched at the
itch it only seemed to grow stronger.
