Vampyre Paladin

Chapter 2
Part 1
Early the next morning, I awoke to the sound of sirens
and people bustling on the street in front of the hotel. My
eye lids lifted slowly, heavy as lead. I attempted to open
them three times before allowing sleep to take me in her
arms once again. There I laid, on my back, resting my left
hand over my eyes, the morning sunlight rolling in through
the open French window in front of my bed, the sheer
curtains gently rustling. When more sirens came, I reached
for the covers at my waist and brought them overhead as I
rolled over onto my right side.
A knock on my door was what called my eyes to
open. A sound so near would never permit me to sleep,
for it was my nature to always be alert when surrounded,
and that knock reverberated throughout the room.
I gripped the covers tightly and took a deep breath
as more knocks came to the door. The blanket began to
stretch to its breaking point under my grip, my fist to
shake. I took a deep breath, paused to calm myself, and
finally threw off the white down blanket.
