Grey couldn ’ t believe what he was hearing . Before meeting this girl , he could not imagine such a person existing , let alone living past infancy . He couldn ’ t even imagine what this girl ’ s life had been like ! Never leaving this room , every movement and every task carefully orchestrated because it could seriously injure or kill her . It must be some sort of hell .
“ Isn ’ t there anything anyone can do for you , sweetie ?” Lita asked , tears for the little girl forming in her eyes . “ Isn ’ t there a treatment or something ?”
Tabitha ’ s expression became even more pitiful . “ There is . But I don ’ t like it . Every time Daddy comes to make me better …”
She reached for a box of tissues next to her bedside and quickly dabbed at her eyes . When she put the tissue down , there were little wrinkles in her eyelids . “ I don ’ t want to anymore !” she moaned . “ I don ’ t want to do it again !” “ Do what again ?” Knives asked . “ Drink blood .” Grey , Lita , and Knives jumped and whirled around . Old Man stood in the door , a handgun pointed out in front of him . “ Get away from my daughter ,” he growled .
They put their hands up and stepped away from the bed and towards the opposite wall . Tabitha raised her head off the pillow and gazed pleadingly at Old Man . “ Daddy , please —!”
“ Hush , Tabby ,” said Old Man . “ You don ’ t want to talk to these criminals , let alone plead for them .” “ We ’ re not criminals !” Lita protested . “ You all have records .” “ My friends had records ,” Grey informed him . “ The rest of us are innocent of any crimes .”
