The Drowned House by Kyla Stan

“‘ The girl felt blood rush into her lungs , and she submitted to the demon .’ There . Finally done !” Nancy Parker smiled as she scribbled the last line to her horror story . Her green eyes widened in excitement when she thought about the monster ’ s black , scaly skin and soulless eyes that deceived all of her characters .
Nancy had a strange dream the previous night , and she remembered a drowning sensation while a demon lurked in her home . Something about that terrible moment inspired her to create another horror story to her expanding collection . Nancy sighed as she closed her journal , shoving the contents into her desk drawer to avoid her mother ’ s disapproving comments so early in the morning . Her mother wanted her to be like the other girls of Summerville ; go to sock hops or drive-in movies with the nice boys who asked her on dates , blast rock n ’ roll , and have a social life .
But the young writer wanted something different . If she followed in the footsteps of her mother , a common housewife , she knew that her dreams of being a published author would vanish . Her life would revolve around having too many children , taking care of her future husband , and running a mundane household .
A soft knock on the door caused Nancy to gasp , and she blocked the desk drawer . “ Come in !”
