THE DARK SIRE: ACCOLADES (Special Edition Issue, March 2021) | Page 37

Never Talk to Strange Psychopaths is a realistic piece created with pastel on paper . It fits into the sub-genre of Gothic .
From the artist : “ Creating art calms me . It allows me to express my feelings and emotions in a way that I couldn ’ t otherwise do . I would be a completely different man if it weren ’ t for my art . The feel of blending pastels with my fingers , working at a fast pace frees my mind . I create artwork for my own well-being . I never imagined my work touching others as it does . Now that I know , I ’ m truly humbled .”
Power reaches beyond the darkness to create the masterpieces he does . The flexibility he shows in his subject matter , creating dark and light pieces , gives him an edge over his contemporaries . Power is the testament and proof that art not only can speak louder than words , but it can also bring humans together . The viewer transcends the medium when they view Power ’ s art , experiencing the artist ’ s feelings and emotions as their own .
Shaun Power is a self-taught pastel artist . He started painting 6 years ago as a form of therapy for Bipolar Disorder , finding that expressing his feelings , blending the pastels with his fingers , and seeing the finished picture was very cathartic . The look and style of his pictures vary wildly depending on his state of mind . Shocked by the intimacy in which people connect with his work , he firmly believes that it ’ s the viewer who creates the magic .
Never Talk to Strange Psychopaths was printed in Issue 3 ( Spring 2020 ).
