The last award is anything but least . In fact , this honored award is presented to the author , poet , or artist who best represented the epitome of the magazine ’ s brand . An overall award that acts as the senpai ( leader and role model ) for all others .
There were a few creatives that rose to the level of being the best of the TDS best – the face of the TDS brand . But only one could walk away with the respect and honor of the coveted Dark Sire Award .
The Village Series by David Crerand is a family of stories that bring horror to the forefront , with a different spin on vampire lore . The first story in the series , “ The Squire ,” debuted in Issue 1 of TDS , and the series continued in tradition straight through Issue 4 . Sadly , The Village has gone into hiatus , but not before Crerand could see the fruits of his labors .
“ The Village – Part III : The Baroness ” is Crerand ’ s masterpiece of the series , and the winner of the overall prize . The story is raw , unexpected , and cunning . You cannot get better than a story with a strong female protagonist at her finest , wielding fangs as her weapon .
