Pandim stopped to think , then asked , “ But how did the medallion first come into existence ? Someone had to create it , right ?”
“ Unfortunately , all that is known about its creation is that one of the original purebloods created it as a way to control lesser , more savage , vampires . It was a means to keep the humans from discovering that vampires lived among them .”
I closed my eyes , recalling the ancient text I had read . It came from the only book I could find on the history of the medallion , and began to recite :
“ The Obyri Pendent was necessary , in order to keep in line those vampires of lesser morals , so as to keep the secret of the vampires ’ existence from humans . It gave its possessor the power to control the minds of those who were weaker than they , and in so doing , the wielder could merely command a vampire ’ s actions or control any part of them they wished . In this , they could kill a person under their control if that was their desire .”
“ So you see , Pandim , Shizuka fights because there are those who would use the medallion for evil , wanting to control the world . I guess you can say , she ’ s trying to save the world .” Viken smiled at his joke , but then he looked directly into my eyes , “ But even a powerful warrior needs to take great care in fighting a fiend who would desire such a thing , or they might not live to see another battle .”
