On Monday, another devastating brawl broke out on the streets of Verona between the Capulet and Montague families, said to be caused by a refused challenge, and pur rage.

The fight first started out because Romeo Montague refused a challenge to fight Tybalt Capulet. Mercutio, (Romeo’s friend and Prince’s kinsman), then stepped in and fought Tybalt. Mercutio was slain by Tybalt’s sword.

Romeo then became enraged, and he fought Tybalt.

For Romeo it unfortunately seemed like Tybalt was winning for most of the fight, and Benvolio Montague was very afraid for Romeo: “I couldn’t believe it, Romeo is not usually a fighter, I thought he was going to die.”

they have had in the past years of their long standing fued. Unlike the last brawl, two people have died, and banishment has occurred. This fight has had worse outcomes than that of other brawls that have broken out between the Montague and Capulet Families.

was going to die.” However, in the end, Romeo’s rage overpowered Tybalt’s. He had slain Tybalt, for Tybalt had slain Mercutio.

Although Romeo had won the fight, a sense of defeat has washed over him. Romeo has been exiled from Verona by Prince Escalus to go live in Mantua. The Prince was enraged and after hearing of the two deaths and what happened. He had said: “And for that offence, immediately we do exile him hence.” Romeo is lucky to not be dead. However, in an interview Romeo tells the Torch that: “I do not deserve this harsh banishment, I honoured the Prince by slaying Mercutio’s murderer.” He seems a little ungrateful considering he could have been sentenced to death, don’t you think?

Moving on, this fight is almost of a different origin than all the other fights these families have had.
