"Our nation desperately needs new, young leaders with a passion for protecting what is left of our incredible public lands."

He laid out a nice cast and began retrieving the fly with his eyes closed. I watched as an absolute tank of a rainbow trout raced up from the depths of the lake and hammered the fly. His hook set was perfect, and he was rewarded with one of the nicest fish I saw caught all summer.

For all the teaching I did this summer, I probably learned more. It is important that all of us anglers take a moment to realize that we do not have all the answers. Everyone has something to teach and about a million things to learn. I am proud to say that I learned something new from everyone I fished with this summer, even the ones who had never held a fly rod before.

The few weeks that I spent at FishCamp renewed my passion for learning as well as teaching and made me excited for the future of fly fishing. I have no doubt that the young anglers that I met this summer will be the same ones protecting our home waters and putting new fisheries on the map in a decade or two. Our nation desperately needs new, young leaders with a passion for protecting what is left of our incredible public lands. Those leaders are out there, and they have something to teach us.
