Tech Buzz:
Dating apps -
yay or nay?
By Joe Mack
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – As
Valentine’s Day nears and winter
carries on, folks are looking
everywhere they can for a love
connection: the grocery, the
laundromat, even the internet. For
over a decade, online dating sites
and apps have grown to include
hundreds of millions of users from
across the globe, resulting in
experiences both good and bad. stories but my favorite one was on
POF. I swiped right on a guy and
it dinged that we matched. He
was fairly handsome and gainfully
employed. Once we traded phone
numbers, I asked for a recent pic
for his contact. Well, he sent me
a blurry one. Come to find out he
was using his son’s pictures, because
THAT WAS NOT HIM. POF stands
for Plenty of Freaks!”
“I met my boyfriend on Tinder,”
said one woman, who we’ll call
Nadia. But it wasn’t without
suffering and searching through
some clear losers. Still, it’s not all sad songs and
waltzes. One man, who we’ll call
Clint, had multiple positive reports
to share.
And it gets weirder. “I met Jenny online 12 years ago
through the Yahoo dating site,
we’ve been happily married for
11 years,” Clint said. “My mom met
her husband online after my dad
died from cancer. She’s happily
married now, too.”
“So, I have been on Tinder, Plenty
of Fish (POF), Bumble, Zoosk,”
said another woman, who we’ll
call Cindy. “I have plenty of horror Some apps and sites are
completely free to use (POF), while
many offer a free trial before pay-
to-play use incurs. A third woman,
“I went on one date where the guy
thought he was sly and picked his
nose and ate his boogers,” Nadia
said.
who we’ll call Ana, likes the free
sites and the pay sites for different
reasons.
“I like Match because I think it gives
better “quality” choices, but when
I hide my profile, the people on
my favorites list can’t see me (you
have to pay extra to have “select”
viewing),” Ana said. “On POF, I can
hide my profile, but the people I’ve
saved as my favorites can still see
my profile.”

open a web browser, search ‘online
dating’, and let the games begin.
