This gem of Tulsa defined itself “by cultural sophistication” long before oil barons brought wealth and fame to the region. The PAC opened its doors in 1977 and has grown into the strong arts hub it’s known for today.    Their John H. Williams Theatre is named for one of the civic leaders who helped secure funding for the performance space by appealing to Tulsa voters. The shows presented here are nothing short of amazing.    The space starts out 2018 with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice’s epic “Evita” Jan.12-21. After that, the amazing Aspen Santa Fe Ballet takes the John H. Williams stage Jan. 26-27. We’re particularly looking forward to February, when we see the story of Harriet Tubman come to life in “Freedom Train” on Feb. 2; then August Wilson’s “Seven Guitars” explores the black experience in America Feb. 3-11 in Liddy Doenges Theatre (also named for a notable beloved civic leader).    In addition to great stage shows, the PAC also offers great music and art.    Their largest theater, Chapman Music Hall, is said to reflect the work of Minoru Yamasaki, who is known for his work on the World Trade Center. The space is beautifully suited to any sound, but we’re really excited about “Finding Neverland” March 6-11 and “The Sound of Music” April 3-8. Be sure to check the website for details on Chamber Music Tulsa and other great offerings.    Art lovers will find plenty to peruse in the PAC Gallery, typically at set times and during Chapman Music Hall events. The New Year starts out with “Tree”, inspired by a 6-year-old girl’s drawing, Jan. 4-30. Spring forward to the mixed- media world of Talitha Jacobs via “Roots of Art” March 2-29.    “G et Y ou r H un t O n” Mon - Sun 3pm - 2am LIVE MUSIC IN JANUARY 1/5 The 5th Element 1/6 Rosy Hips 1/12 Less Than 12 1/13 RPM 1/14 Preslar Monthly Music Showcase 1/18 Ego Culture 1/19 The Plums 1/20 BC & the Big Rig 1/25 Bria & Joey 1/26 Dante & the Hawks 1/27 November 918.599.9200 224 N.
