More than just a figure from the Indian territories known for saying, “I never met a man I didn’t like,” Will Rogers transcended stage, screen, radio and print media to go out on to represent the pulse of a nation. While many Oklahomans may think of Rogers as his bumbling ranch hand persona, Rogers spoke universal truths across an array of media of his time while rubbing his commonsensical cowboy philosophy off on any world leader he’d meet - and there were many. Established about three years after his tragic death in a plane crash, the Will Rogers Memorial Museum became more than a place for visitors to pay their respects to Rogers’ remains. The 19,000+ square foot facility feels as though the old cowpoke himself may saunter coyly down the hallway at any moment. The grounds exist as a place to learn and honor his legacy with a variety of exhibits and multimedia presentations that enable every chapter of Rogers’ life to come alive in their fullest detail for visitors of every age and background. Visitors can see many pieces of art inspired by Rogers, see a replica of his office, the interior of his Californi a ranch home, and see many different films about Will in a variety of theatres within the museum. Coming in 2018 are a vast array of events through Will Rogers Museum for the entire family to enjoy. Every summer in June at the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah, the Will Rogers Memorial Museums present their Frontier Days Kids Camp - a day camp that allows children to experience what life was like in 19th- century Indian Territory through a variety of activities ranging from period-correct chores and other activities. In August, the ranch will sponsor the Will Rogers & Wiley Post Fly-In - an event where a variety of historic planes will make a special landing near the ranch.
