Oklahoma shines with shows for ( inner ) children of all ages

TULSA , Okla . - After 40 years , Tulsa Performing Arts Center is still delivering sensational , relevant , and riveting shows . This month we ’ re looking forward to a few family-friendly shows in the top-notch venue .
Tulsa Youth Opera presents “ The Snow Queen ” - June 17 & 18 in Tulsa PAC ’ s John H . Williams Theatre .
This fairytale opera by Pierangelo Valtinoni is based on Hans Christian Anderson ’ s acclaimed tale – one which is said to have inspired Disney ’ s “ Frozen ”. However , this production has strong roots in the Italian lyric opera tradition , and promises “ rousing choral numbers and tuneful arias .”
Join young Kai , who falls under the queen ’ s icy spell , and best friend Gerda , who must muster enough courage and strength to track him across a barren tundra of the Snow Queen ’ s realm .
The show features three adult professional singers , as well as 50 children from Tulsa Youth Opera , all accompanied by Tulsa Opera Orchestra .

Later in the month , Celebrity Attractions presents “ Matilda The Musical ” - June 20-25 at Tulsa PAC ’ s Chapman Music Hall .
This award-winning show follows the life events of one extraordinary girl who “ armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind ,

dares to take a stand and change her own destiny .”
The show , based on Roald Dahl ’ s beloved book , ran for four years on Broadway to soldout audiences . The New York Times called the show “ satisfying and subversive ” - a nod to its namesake character and her unique approach to the world . She is not afraid to use “ words and language , books and stories , and their incalculable worth as weapons of defense , attack and survival . It ’ s about turning the alphabet into magic , and using it to rule the world .”

Muskogee Little Theatre ’ s 2017 Summer Youth Theatre Camp Production is Disney ’ s “ The Lion King Jr .” - June 22-25 .
Watch as the African savannah celebrates the circle of life in song and dance , featuring Simba , Rafiki , and more memorable characters . The inspiring tale has long been a fan favorite and this show is sure to please .
