TULSA , Okla . – It ’ s music , art and beer in downtown Tulsa this month as festival season continues . Spring has arrived , and there ’ s festy fun blooming all over the city center . The Blue Dome Arts Festival , Mayfest , and Hop Jam have returned , so break out your sneakers and the sunscreen and take to the streets .
The 14 th Annual Blue Dome Arts Festival prides itself on all
things local . Centered on the Blue Dome District near 2 nd & Elgin , the festival runs May 19-21 , featuring paintings , prints , pottery , photography , jewelry , woodcrafts and other creations by local artists . More than 250 visual and craft artists will showcase their wares at this unique event .
In addition to the art , there will be plenty of music at this festival . Friday ’ s performers include The Young Vines and Tony Romanello & the Black Jackets . Saturday , catch The FM Pilots and Animal Names . The Sugar Free All-Stars from Oklahoma City are part of Sunday ’ s lineup . There is also a special “ Pet Zone ” – a backyard space complete with sod , shade and water for four-legged festival friends . Entry is free to Mayfest , which features over 100 musicians and dancers on four stages , craft and art booths showcasing artists from all over the U . S . and Oklahoma , and plenty of festival food . Funnel cakes , corn dogs , BBQ and lemonade , are , of course , part of the mix , and there are plenty of beer booths for those who favor something stronger . |
Tulsa artist Matthew Bearden designed this year ’ s Mayfest poster , which features a stand of small , pink-leafed trees whose boughs form the shape of a bison . The trees are set against a view of the Tulsa skyline . The original art upon which the poster is based will be on display at the Mayfest Invitational Gallery in the lobby of the Williams Towers at 1 W . Third St .
Music , from local to national acts , is a big part of the festival . The festival ’ s main stage is located on Third Street on the lawn just outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel . Saturday night ’ s headliner is progressive bluegrass-rock band Horseshoes & Hand
