Poetry and storytelling events ‘ slam ’ April

LOCUST GROVE , Okla . - April is National Poetry Month , so it ’ s a good time to get out and find some poetry and other wordfriendly celebrations .
Wonder City Wordfest on April 15 is a celebration of all things word that takes place at Wonder City Coffee and the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry ( ROMP ), both in Locust Grove .

You can also celebrate Poetry Month by going to a premier writing festival in April at East Central University , Ada . The 12 th annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival , April 6-8 , will bring people from all over the state and region .

For storytelling fans , the Ok , So Tulsa Grand Slam is not to be missed . This story slam is a culmination of a year ’ s worth of storytelling contests put on by the Ok , So group monthly at the IDL Ballroom .
Eleven winners compete for the title of Best Storyteller in Tulsa at this event , which runs from 7:30-10:30 p . m .
“ Audience members who attend the Ok , So ’ s Grand Slam are always blown away at the high caliber of stories told even though the storytellers are just regular folks . It ’ s incredible to watch !” said Ryan Howell , a former Best Storyteller in Tulsa winner .
