Stillwater set for Red Dirt Film and No-Coast Music Festival activities

STILLWATER , Okla . – Screeners for Red Dirt International Film Fest have spent the last year watching hundreds of original movies submitted by filmmakers from around the world who hope to compete at the festival in Stillwater . The goal is to find the very best of the entries from every genre , and especially to represent filmmakers from Oklahoma .
The official selections for Red Dirt Film were finally announced Jan . 14 on the fest ’ s website . In all , 68 original films have been chosen . Over the next two months , they will compete with each other for nomination in 25 award categories .
The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on the last night of the festival , March 5 . VIP tickets are available now on the fest ’ s website , but for the first time , Red Dirt Film audiences will be able to attend all the film screening for free .
Screenings will include about 24 hours of backto-back movies shown on a single screen in the prestigious Viva Locke Theatre at the Seretean Center for Performing Arts on the OSU campus . Each day of the festival will also include panel discussions , special appearances and parties .
Red Dirt Film ’ s organizers have been working to create the festival as an all-inclusive media event , using industry events like SXSW as inspiration . This year , the festival will include the first ever No- Coast Music Festival at Eskimo Joe ’ s on March 3 . No Coast will be a small showcase of local talent and an open discussion of the possibilities for a music-industry event in Stillwater .
This little film fest has only been around since 2013 , but it has grown each year . Movies that have won awards at Red Dirt Film are popping up on DVD and on Netflix . Last year ’ s Red Dirt Film was named one of the Top 100 Reviewed Film Fests in the world .
That festival was a tipping point for the fest ’ s organizers , who realized that they would need more space and
more resources for the next festival . When OSU President Burns Hargis and the OSU Theatre Department threw their support behind the fest by providing the Seretean Center , the Red Dirt team decided to take them up on the offer , even though it would mean postponing the event six months .
The new venue means that the festival ’ s main events can be organized around a single location , and it provides space for what is expected to be a record turn-out .
