TULSA , Okla . – This month we sit down with Tulsa native Joey Trevino to talk about the finer things in life : music , coffee , food , and how awesome it is to have the most awesome name in the galaxy .

Joe Mack : How did you end up with such an awesome first name ?

Joey Trevino : I gave myself my name Joey when I was in Foster Middle School , 7th grade . I was picked on in school called names like Hozer and Hozebean because my given name was Jose ’. I rode bikes and I thought Joey was a better “ stage ” name and I felt more like a Joey . My family has always called me Junior .

JM : Describe a perfect day in the life of Joey .

JT : I wake up happy and grab one of my guitars and turn it up full blast and wake the household . When I wake up , my brain is running full throttle with new lyrics and thoughts of the gig the night before . I have thoughts like “ Yeah , hey , I got paid last night for doing what I love and how did the Rolling Stones do it ”. Then I practice and I spend time listening to other people ’ s music and start thinking about that nights gig .

JM : Joey ’ s favorite thing about Oklahoma is …

JT : I love the weather . I love that we are in the middle of the U . S . and we can go anywhere and then come back home , a home that is in the middle of America .

JM : One thing Joey wishes were different about Oklahoma is …

JT : I love Tulsa because it ’ s a great music community . But I do wish there were bigger and better opportunities for musicians in Oklahoma .

JM : When did you get started and into playing music ?

JT : I started playing guitar when I was 14 because I loved distorted loud music . I come from a musical family . My mom sings beautifully and my brothers Francisco and Rigo are very musical as well .

JM : Do you have any favorite Joes or Joeys in the world ?

JT : Joe Modica , Joe Cervantes , the owner of Willie ’ s Saloon , Joey Green . Any Joe and Joey who has helped me out and / or inspired me .

JM : Do you have a preferred place to grab a cup of joe ?

JT : I ’ ve got my own delicious cup of Joe at home . I enjoy my coffee with a shot of espresso each day , chillin ’ at home with my fiancé Amy Tall Chief .
