Emmanuel is a uniquely talented guitarist with a distinctive style , known for his high energy concerts and that makes the holiday theme of his current tour all the more interesting . Christmas music tends to be unimaginative , sedate and boring . Both when Emmanuel lets his fingers fly across the fretboard , suddenly even overly familiar material seems fresh and exciting .
Emmanuel has been named “ Best Acoustic Guitarist ” by Guitar Player magazine on multiple occasions . Born and raised in Australia , Emmanuel nevertheless grew up idolizing the American guitar player Chet Atkins . With Atkins ’ s legendary talent as his inspiration Emmanuel pushed himself into becoming one of the world ’ s most talented guitar players . Late in his life Atkins would name Emmanuel as one of the young guitarists he himself most admired . Atkins was not alone . Anyone who has seen Emmanuel play will instantly add themselves to the list of his admirers .
Emmanuel has a pair of excellent Christmas themed albums in his discography . But his current Classics & Christmas Tour also goes beyond the holiday songbook . These shows include a full set of his other most famous songs . This material runs the gamut including jazz and blues , as well as bluegrass , country and folk . Even in a purely acoustic setting , Emmanuel always brings a rock n roll attitude to every genre he touches upon .
