ENTERTAINMENT BUZZ Deck the Halls with... Buddy Holly ? By Vallery M. Brown MUSKOGEE, Okla. – A cast of local musicians will deck the halls of the Frisco Depot with pure nostalgia as they play hits from some of rock ‘n’ rolls pioneers along with a jingling of Christmas songs and a re- creation of the historic 1959 Winter Dance Party. Hosted by the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, “The Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper “The show usually sells out and is fun for us,” said Blair, who’s also a musician and performs during the show. Blair portrayed Buddy Holly in Muskogee Little Theatre’s 2013 production of “The Buddy Holly Story.” He’s parlayed that into the popular 1950s Christmas and rock music revue, stripping out the dialogue and adding in popular hits not only from Holly, but other golden-era rock ‘n’ rollers as well. Blair said the second half of the show is a re-creation of the historic 1959 Winter Dance Party, a Midwest touring show that featured ‘50s icons Holly, Valens and “The Big Bopper” as well as Frankie Sardo, Waylon Jennings and others. It was the last show and tour for Holly, Valens and “The Big Bopper” who died in a plane crash Feb. 3, 1959, following a Winter Dance Party tour stop in Clear Lake, Iowa. Blair promises a night to remember with hits and holiday cheer. Tribute Christmas Show” is Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Frisco Depot, 401 S. Third. The annual event benefits the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program, which provides new clothes and toys for children who would otherwise go without. Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Executive Director Jim Paul Blair said the show has become a Muskogee tradition and a way for area musicians to join forces to help give back to the community. 14 | www.thecurrentbuzz.net “The Frisco Depot is such a cool music venue,” said Blair. “It’s always a great place to hear live music.” The tribute revue will also make stops Dec. 2 in Eufaula at Legacy on Main Street and Dec. 22 at Roxy Theater in Muskogee.
