Dale Dirk Outlasts Bracken at Simsbury Farms
Wins with birdie on second playoff hole in wilting August heat
D
ale Dirk of Torrington Country Club shot 71, one under par,
and then birdied the second extra hole against Defending
Champion Jack Bracken to take the 22nd Super Senior Champion-
ship at Simsbury Farms Golf Course. Dirk made a 30-foot, uphill
putt on the par-4, 381-yard hole (below) before Bracken missed his
attempt from just inside it.

The two lefties were the only ones in the field of 76 to bet-
ter par on a scorching, 95+ degree day. Bruce Kraczkowsky, Shawn
McLoughlin and Terry Ruzzo all shot 72. When it was over a happy
Dirk said he was just glad to be out of heat, a sentiment shared by
most of the field. “It was tough,” one competitor said, “because I’ve
got a few health problems. But then I guess everybody here does.”
