THE INSIDE SCOOP
Brooklawn’s Boatwright Wins the Met Junior
S
ometimes things work out. Jack Boatwright of Brooklawn Country
Club in Fairfield missed qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur at
Baltusrol by two shots. But that allowed him to play in the 101st Met
Junior Championship at Siwanoy Country Club the same week and he made
the most of it.
Shooting 72 (+1) to secure one of 16 match play shots, he beat No-
lan Forsman of Larchmont, 4&2, and then faced the

competitor to reach match play. Boatwright won 2& 1,
making five birdies on the front nine to stay with Bel-
castro, and then building a 4-up lead on the back. He defeated James Pak
of Palisades Park, N.J., 5&4, in the semis, and faced another New Jerseyan,
Will Celiberti of Ridgewood, in the final, which he won, 2&1 amassing a
late 3-up lead.
For 18-year-old Boatwright, the grandson of the late USGA Executive
Director, P.J. Boatwright, Jr., and son of USGA Committeewoman Cathy
Boatwright, his first junior win was sweet. “I can’t even tell you what it
means,” he told the MGA. “To have it be a tournament as big as this, I can’t
imagine a better way.”
And yes, that’s a Baltusrol shirt he wore in the final.
