Fretty, Fosdick lead Team Connecticut in NE Junior

ackson Fretty of Cos Cob, and Chris Fosdick of Middlefield led Connecticut to a runner up
finish in the New England Junior Invitational, August 14-15. Massachusetts claimed the
title with a three-round score of 9-under par 1071. Connecticut totaled 14-over par 1094,
while Rhode Island (25-over 1105), Vermont (46-over 1126), New Hampshire (49-over 1129) and
Maine (89-over 1169) completed the standings.
Hosted this year by the Vermont State Golf Association, the 54-hole Invitational was played
at the 6,829 yard, par-72 Manchester Country Club in Manchester, Vermont.
Fretty was a model of consistency in firing three consecutive rounds of 70, while Fosdick
improved by two shots in each round with 72-70-68. His final round 68 was the low round of the
day.
James Imai of Brookline, Massachusetts was a wire-to-wire winner with rounds of 65-70-
71. Imai’s first round 65 established a new course record at Manchester CC. Fretty and Fosdick
shared runner up honors with Patrick Welsh of Providence, Rhode Island, the 2016 New England
Junior champion who is headed to Oklahoma on a golf scholarship this fall.
The New England Junior Amateur Invitational is an annual event that features seven-
person junior amateur teams from the six New England states. The team format is the best five-
of-seven scores for 54 holes played over a two-day period.
Rounding out Connecticut’s squad were Finn Boynton (Milford), Austin Rupp (Suffield),
Tyler Hahn (Avon), Alex Gu (Darien), and Will Wilson (Darien).
