Crash interned with us in 2015 before putting in a year as the Assistant Women ’ s Golf Coach at the University of Denver . Like others on our staff she is multitalented , possessing a thorough understanding of the game , as well as leadership and organizational skills . She will be a key figure for us and for women ’ s golf in Connecticut moving forward .
A quick look at some specific events : in 2015 the CSGA combined our Mixed Team Championship with the Connecticut Women ’ s Golf Association ( CWGA ) Mixed Team in an effort to bolster the championship and produce a single event that was better then either of our independent efforts .
In 2016 , for the first time in the history of the championships , the CSGA managed Connecticut ’ s High School Golf Championships , which included the Girls Division with more than 100 high school girls participating .
When Connecticut ’ s participation in the Girls Junior Tri-State Matches was in doubt this year , the CSGA stepped in and named Crash the Team Captain and quickly put together a squad of six girls who nearly won the event , finishing second to Massachusetts by ½ point .
Also in 2016 for the first time ever , the CSGA conducted the Connecticut Women ’ s Amateur , held in August at Heritage Village Country Club . The management of this championship had previously alternated between the CWGA and the Southern New England Women ’ s Golf Association ( SNEWGA ). When both groups asked us to take the lead we gladly accepted the added responsibility .
For some time now the CSGA has provided financial support to both CWGA and SNEWGA , but the move for us to become active leaders in women ’ s golf and thereby more inclusive is accelerating .
This is the direction we are going , and it is a good thing for all parties involved , as we make it a priority to provide both additional and enhanced playing opportunities for girls and women , as well as additional and enhanced opportunities for girls and women in all areas of the game .
Starting years ago when the CSGA recognized the importance of public golf , our organization has become stronger and more effective by embracing diverse constituencies . This trend will continue in the coming seasons as we actively seek to recruit talented women such as Judy Smith and Daniela Lendl to take on more leadership roles within the CSGA .
