VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Q & A with Gianni Zunino A l though Gianni Zunino’s love for golf came at a later age than most, you would never know by listening to him speak about the game. At the age of 48, Zunino was somewhat reluctant to take a swing at the game, but as soon as he did, he never looked back. Now 74, Zunino loves everything about the game of golf, especially the rules. In season, there is not one day that you will not see Zunino playing a round at his home course, Wampanoag Country Club. When he’s not playing golf, Zunino keeps himself busy by volunteering. Thanks to his good friends, George Post and Bill Williams, Zunino has been volunteering for the CSGA for over 15 years. Even though his two friends are now deceased, Zunino continues to help out the CSGA whenever possible. His unconditional support for the CSGA does not go unnoticed. We are extremely thankful to have Mr. Zunino as one of our On-course Officials. ~ By Katie Vrabel What is your favorite part of volunteering at a CSGA event? A: It gives me some diversity. I play most days but it is also nice to take a break. I love to golf so whenever I volunteer; I get to take a break from the physical game, while still being surrounded by golf. It’s very satisfying being able to see good golf while I volunteer. What is one thing that most people might not know about you? A: My background and family. I came to the U.S. in 1981 and speak four different languages – Italian, German, English, and French. I was born and raised in the Northern Alps of Italy. At the age of 18, I decided to move to Germany. After spending a few years in Germany, I moved to London for 10 years, where I met my wife. From there, we moved to Milan, Italy in 1971. After working with my company, Johnson & Higgins, for 10 years in Milan, they had me transfer to the United States, where the parent company was located. What do you think golf teaches you about life? A: Honesty. I think golf teaches you to be honest with yourself. A lot of times with golf, you can cut corners or cheat but you don’t want to because then you will have a guilty conscious. 10 | CSGA Links // May, 2015 www.csgalinks.org
