Time to Celebrate
B
ull’s Bridge Golf Club in South Kent is
celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2014.
Although one of the CSGA’s “youngest”
member clubs, Bull’s Bridge blends easily into one of
Connecticut’s most historic locations. As the annual
site of the CSGA Tournament of Champions, its own
golf history grows with every season.
The club takes its name from a nearby covered
bridge that dates back to the Colonial era. While
Jacob Bull built it to provide access to his grist and
sawmill, the bridge reportedly offered passage to
George Washington on four occasions during the
Revolutionary War. Centuries later, the popular
tourist attraction still remains active to car traffic
spanning the Housatonic River just a few miles from
the club.
Bull’s Bridge features spectacular views
throughout the Tom Fazio designed course.
Surveying the magnificent landscape, his only design
project in Connecticut, the world renowned Fazio
remarked, “This is an outstanding piece of land for
golf in a setting that is nothing short of spectacular.
As a designer, it’s what you hope and dream for in a
project.”
The property’s rugged elevation changes are
effectively incorporated into the layout, sometimes
subtly and other times dramatically. The sweeping
fairways are often framed by distinctively sculptured
white sand bunkers. New England style stonewalls
weave throughout the course creating charm and
challenge. Of all the course’s unique characteristics,
the greens are possibly the most outstanding feature,
gaining notoriety as some of the finest in the state.
The artfully constructed contours and the purest of
putting surfaces create a challenging yet enjoyable
putting experience.
Bull’s Bridge will host the CSGA Tournament of
Champions on September 2. Past and current club
champions of CSGA member clubs and winners of
CSGA tournaments are eligible to compete in the
18-hole stroke play championship.
