12th One Day Championship - Shennecossett Golf Course
O
n Tuesday, October 8th, one of Connecticut’s best public courses will welcome the
CSGA for the 12th One Day Championship. A culmination of the One Day Tournament
Season, the One Day Championship serves as an opportunity to gather the top One Day
Players from across the state for a season-ending championship. To qualify for the One
Day Championship, a player must have placed in the top five of any division in a 2013
CSGA One Day Tournament.
Founded in 1898, Shennecossett is extremely rich in history. The course began as
a four-hole layout until 1916, when famed golf course architect Donald Ross redesigned
the course to it’s present layout. Pictured below is the 16th hole, one of three holes built
adjacent to the Long Island Sound in 1997 as part of a land exchange with Pfizer. The
course was purchased by the Town of Groton in 1969 and has remained the only Donald
Ross public facility in Connecticut ever since.
