2018 DICK TETTELBACH PLAYER OF THE YEAR BEN CONROY
A CAREER
IN A YEAR
For most Connecticut golfers a victory in the Connecticut Amateur, the
Mid-Amateur, the Four-Ball—or any one of the CSGA majors—would be
the highlight of a career. In 2018 Ben Conroy won them all, along with
the 82nd Father Son and two team championships at the beginning and
the end of the season. Inspired, he said, by fellow “mid-am” Brian Ahern
at the Palmer Cup, Conroy went on a tear. In 11 stroke-play rounds from
the Palmer Cup through the Mid-Amateur, he averaged 70 and only once
scored higher than 72. Th at consistency, and an ability to go low in an
event’s fi nal round, put him in a gear most players don’t have. He won
the 2018 Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year Award going away.
