CAMPS Friday, March. 27, 2015 Camps during difficult times Here’s a look at just a few of the camps made available to help area youth get through difficult times, and try to resume life and “normal” children. Camp Blue Skies Georgia, a week-long recreational, educational and social experience for adults with development disabilities, ranging from Down Syndrome to autism. The five-day, four-night event was held at Camp Twin Lakes from March 16-20 in Rutledge. Camp Twin Lakes was established in 1993 to provide a place for children with serious illnesses and life challenges to experience the joys of childhood and grow in their confidence and capabilities. The camp works with more than 40 different organizations to teach campers to overcome obstacles and grow their confidence. Camp Kate to help grieving children BY BRYAN FAZIO The job of the people at Longleaf Hospice is to help others at their toughest time. The hospice center, located in Covington and Decatur, is taking a wider approach to that May 2 by holding its first camp for children who have experienced the death of a parent, grandparent, sibling or other close relationship. Camp Kate will be held at in Clark’s Grove from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is free to eligible children ages 5-12. However, space is limited to the first 30 children referred and confirmed. READ MORE
