Littlestone Pro loses in

The first year assistant was
beaten at the first play-off
hole by former European
Tour pro Gareth Davies
(Abbeydale) after both
players had finished on
12-under-par 207 for the 54hole tournament.
Wilson, who like Davies
carded a final round 68 to
earn his play-off place, was
upbeat and determined to
take the positives from the
experience.
“I was happy to get in the
mix, it was the first serious
competition I had played
in for a while so I can’t
complain,” he said.
“When it came to the playoff, I’ve hit driver off the 18th
every time I’ve played it this
week but blocked it. It’s one
of those holes where the
percentage shot is probably
hitting iron off the tee but for
three rounds the driver has
stood me in good stead.
“I’m always one to attack so
wasn’t going to sit back and
try and cosy it in, I’d rather
go for the win than sit back.
“It didn’t come off this time
but hopefully in future it
might.”
Davies, meanwhile, joins
an illustrious list of former
winners of the PGA’s oldest
national tournament that
includes Tony Jacklin, Peter
Alliss and Barry Lane. His
efforts earned him £5,000,
an additional £1,000 from
principal sponsor Powerade,
a year’s worth of products
and Glenmuir clothing.
Rob Sayle, the
club’s chairman of
membership and
marketing, said:
“Golfers will be able
to play a few holes
with members and
beginners will get
lessons with our
professional, Stuart
Roakes. Juniors can
try the Tri golf net,
and we will also have
putting practice for
all if needed. The day
runs from 2-5pm and
refreshments will be
available.”
Marathon Charity effort by Upchurch River Valley Duo
How would you fancy the idea of
playing a round of golf every day
for 30 days in a row – especially if
you were aged 81?
Well, that’s exactly what Upchurch
River Valley Golf Club member Joan
Murphy accomplished in June in aid
of charity. Joan, who plays off a 23
handicap, suggested to the Upchurch

club captain, Tony Pereira, that she
would be willing to play a round every
day throughout June to raise money
for Tony’s chosen Captain’s Charity, the
Court Regis Care Home in Sittingbourne,
which specialises in dementia care. And
Tony felt it was such a good idea that he
decided to accompany Joan throughout
her marathon effort. Tony, who plays
off 14, said: “To be honest, it’s been a
privilege to play with Joan because she’s
an amazing lady. She insisted that there
would be no buggies, and that we would
have to return a proper medal card for
each round.
“We had been hoping to raise over
£1000 but the final figure will be around
the £2000 mark, which is brilliant”.
