THE COUNTY | 2020-2021
SO MUCH TO SEE, IT IS HARD TO DECIDE.
A list of some of the attractions in The County.
As the largest county in the eastern U.S., Aroostook County is jam-packed
with dozens of communities featuring some fun, and sometimes offbeat,
attractions to visit. Our list is broken down by the three more populated
of the region’s four sub-regions.
Tips when traveling by car: when driving through the region, the primary
route is U.S. 1, which bisects the region from Houlton to Fort Kent, passing
through both Presque Isle and Caribou. For those with an eye for astronomy,
make sure to keep an eye out along the way for the planets making up a scale
model of the solar system. On the western edge of the region is Route 11,
winding past myriad lakes and through lumber towns such as Ashland and
Patten, and presenting a panoramic view of Mt. Katahdin.
