THE COUNTY | 2020-2021
A LONGSTANDING TRADITION OF HOSPITALITY
in every corner of the region goes back generations with visitors who
have cherished the unmatched beauty of The County.
Today, visitors are greeted with a broad array of lodging options that cater
to every level of comfort. From an upscale hotel with luxury amenities or
historic cottage nestled into a rolling hillside to a rustic cabin far from paved
roads and wi-fi signals or a budget motel that serves as a launch point for
an adventure, the choice is yours.
You can stay in a turn-of-the-century inn like The Old Iron Inn located
in Caribou, where an incredible collection of antique pressing irons and local
artwork is on display. The Inn of Acadia, in the St. John Valley, offers a
stylish option as the former Mary of Mediatrix Convent of the Daughters
of Wisdom. Now it’s a family-run business operated by the descendants of
French-Canadians.
You’ll find rustic log cabins set among the evergreens in our remote regions,
complete with pine furnishings, wood-burning heat, and hand-carried water.
Some are more isolated than others. Your neighbors might include deer, bald
eagles, raccoons, and moose. Rent a cabin or pitch a tent by a lake, and wake
up in the morning to pastoral scenery and perhaps a swim, then head off for
a paddle or a hike.
You can find fully furnished in-town or rural cottages to your taste, with all
the comforts of home like full kitchens and hot showers. Cottage rentals are
cost-effective for groups or families. Enjoy meals together as you plan your
day’s adventure. Cabins and cottages can easily be found near lakes and on
hillsides, providing beautiful views every day.
Sporting camps and lodges abound. These are a perfect way to enjoy the
region’s outdoor and recreational appeal since they usually offer full services
like guides, excellent home cooking, and the gear to get you going. Given our
winter recreational opportunities, many of our lodgings are open year-round.
