THE COUNTY | 2020-2021 GONE FOR NOW In early November 2019, a statewide windstorm destroyed the beloved, nearly 100-year-old, wooden lookout cab sitting atop the 48-foot tall fire tower on Deboullie Mountain. The discovery by Red River Camps owner Jen Brophy was described as “getting a kick in the gut.” Luckily no one was hurt in the incident, nor was the nearby mountaintop cabin popular with hikers. So while it’s gone, for now, Maine’s Bureau of Parks and Land will have a new cab in place by 2021. WIDE OPEN These are the spaces meant for everyone to enjoy. Jerry Monkman/EcoPhotography 26
