THE COUNTY | 2019-2020
SO MUCH TO DO, IT IS HARD TO DECIDE.
Aroostook is the largest county in the eastern United States and across this
diverse locale are dozens of interesting and out-of-the-ordinary side trips. We’ve
split this intriguing list up by the three more populated of the four sub-regions.
When traveling through the region, the primary route is US 1, which bisects
the region from Houlton to Fort Kent passing through both Presque Isle and
Caribou. For those with an eye for astronomy, make sure to stop and visit each
of the planets in the solar system along the way. On the western edge of the
region is Route 11, winding past myriad lakes and through lumber towns such
as Ashland and Patten, and presenting a panoramic view of Mt. Katahdin.
