So you are reentering the work force and you need to buy a business suit. How do you choose the right one? This can be nerve wrecking for many women. Is my suit too revealing? Does it make me look fat? Does it make me look professional? Will other ' s take me seriously? Am I buying the right color? These are all valid questions we ask ourselves. So what are the steps you should take when looking for the right business suit?
Step 1: Where will you be working?
This is a very important question to ask yourself. Will you be working at a law firm? If this is the case then you would like to pick a more classic, neutral toned suit. You want to earn the respect of your peers and must dress appropriately. If you will be working in the fashion industry then your suit will need to be fashion forward. Once again, you want to earn the respect of your peers. Your appearance is everything.
Step 2. Pants, skirt, or dress?
Once you know the type of work environment you will be in, then it ' s on to the type of suit. All of these are acceptable suits, however, some may be more acceptable than others in different situations. If your job requires a bit of physical labor, then you may want to opt for a pants suit. You don ' t want to have to do a lot of bending and lifting in a dress or a skirt.
Step 3: What color?
Color can be a tough one. Sometimes we want to choose colors that we love and think we look great in. Loud or vibrant colors may not be suitable in all work settings. Color can be a huge distraction and we want to keep everyone productive, right? So in this case, say you absolutely love purple and want to wear a purple suit. Choose a softer shade that will not stand out too much. This way, you can be happy and wear a color that you love and your boss will be happy because the color is not a distraction.
Step 4: Does this suit make my butt look big?
Choosing the right fit can be the most difficult task for some women. I mean, hey, we have curves and they are going to show! The thing to do with a business suit is to find the fit that is most flattering for your body type without being too revealing. If you have a larger chest, then you may want to stay away from low cut tops. You don ' t want to have a wardrobe malfunction at work. If you have more in the hips and thighs section, then try something with more of a flare at the bottom. This way it won ' t hug too tight and it will help to point the eyes in a different direction.
If you follow these steps and ask yourself the right questions, then you are sure to find the right suit! Let us know how you pick your suit. Tag us in your Instagram pics wearing your suits. Find us at instagram. com / cosmopolitanmommy # CosMom 18
