Scholarship winner appreciates foundation

Many people think of the Coshocton Foundation when it comes time for high school seniors to apply for scholarships . However , they also have some available for nontraditional adult students .
One of those funds is the Kenneth F . Berry Memorial Adult Scholarship . According to the foundation ’ s website , “ This fund honors the memory of attorney and former State Sen . Ken Berry . A one-year $ 2,000 scholarship is awarded to an adult nontraditional student attending any two- or four-year degreegranting institution .”
One of the honored winners of that scholarship was Kelly Bratton , a recent law school graduate .
Bratton graduated from Coshocton High School and earned a business degree from the Ohio State University . She was working for the local court system when she decided to go back to school for another degree .
“ As a clerk you are between a rock and a hard place ,” Bratton said . “ People will ask you legal questions , but you can ’ t give them advice even though you know the answers . I realized there weren ’ t a lot of attorneys around here and that people had questions . Going

Bratton was married and had a child when she decided to make a career change . She enrolled in the night program at Capital University and attended classes Monday , Wednesday and Friday from 6-10 p . m . while still working during the day .

“ When I think back , I think I must have been a little crazy ,” Bratton said . “ I ’ d be up until 11:30 p . m . and have to get up and go to work the next day .”

County fair passes are available for veterans

Free passes for the Coshocton County Fair are available for honorably discharged veterans that reside in Coshocton County . These passes are
made possible through the Blue Star Mothers Chapter OH59 and the Coshocton County Veterans Council .

“ A lot of people I talked to knew him from either interning with him or working with him ,” Bratton said . “ This gave me my connection to talk about with others in the legal community .”
Bratton took the bar exam in February of this year and found out she passed in April . She knew she wanted to be an attorney in Coshocton County and is happy to be serving the community at Gottlieb , Johnston , Beam , & Dal Ponte . There she does transactional law such as estate planning .
“ I like helping people with their future plans ,” Bratton said .
In addition to serving Coshocton as an attorney , Bratton is a graduate of Leadership Coshocton County and active with the Kiwanis Club .

Remember to bring proof of residency and either veterans identification card or DD-214 . All passes are numbered and nontransferable .
