United Way of Coshocton hires new director

The United Way of Coshocton County announced Scott Edson as its new executive director . He will succeed Lyn Mizer , who served in this position for the past 11 years .
Following a statewide search , Edson was selected . Edson has more than 20 years of community outreach , recreation and administrative experience . With a bachelor ’ s degree from Old Dominion University in recreation and leisure services , he most recently served as the executive director of the YMCA in Spotsylvania County , Virginia . His greatest accomplishment is the amount of lives he helped enhance through youth , adult , special needs , community outreach and senior programs .
Edson said , “ My passion has always been about helping others , giving them an opportunity to develop and grow . But what I have found is that they have positively impacted my life , which

motivates me to keep doing the thing I love — helping others .”
Board President Steve Oster said , “ Scott ’ s background in nonprofit management , fundraising , community event , finance and strategic planning along with his professionalism will be a good fit for the United Way . He will have big shoes to fill , but Scott is up for the challenge and meeting people in the community .”
Edson will be responsible for the operations , agency goals and furthering the mission of the organization and to help create long-lasting change , not only by monetary donations , but also by building on relationships to advance the common good .
The United Way unites neighbors and resources to positively impact lives in Coshocton County . One donation reaches more than 30 programs , and 99 cents of every dollar donated stays in Coshocton County .
Edson is originally from New Jersey but has lived in various parts of the country . He enjoys kayaking , hiking , woodworking and volunteering throughout the community . His wife , Lisa , was born and raised in Coshocton but left to pursue a 23-year career serving the country in the U . S . Navy . They have been married since 1995 and have one son named Kyle who lives in Florida and works for a biomanufacturing company .
It has always been a goal of theirs to relocate back to Coshocton to be close to family and friends .
